About Catch The Fire

What is happening?

Before The Pandemic, Zoom, Mobile devices and Netflix, people actually spent time together in person.

Storytelling is a time-honored tradition; long before books were written, and TV was invented, and we want to resurrect this pastime.  There is nothing like a good story.

In days gone by, the storyteller would roam from village to village; telling wild tales of heroes and villains, using spoken words to entertain and inform. Travelling minstrels would sing and those who listened would repeat the story or sing the song long after they left the people behind.

What Kind of Stories?

Long before Bible stories were immortalised in our perfectly bound books, they were passed down from generation to generation through verbal storytelling. Biblical stories will be told from a unique and entertaining perspective of monologue and song.

What is the purpose?

The main aim of ‘Catch the Fire’ is to remove yourself from the chaos of a busy working week and unplug from the stresses and strains of everyday life. Mobile phones off, no internet or TV to distract, just the great outdoors where there is peace and quiet- save for for the sound of nature and the sweet crackle of an open fire burning in the night.

Why name the program ‘Catch the Fire’?

  • Because the tongues of fire in Acts 2 represents God’s presence as they were gathered, and we absolutely want Him as our honored guest by the fireside

  • Because this storytelling will take place around a campfire, of course!

About Anna and Mark McAllister

Anna and Mark McAllister have been married for 30 years and have four grown up children; 2 girls and 2 boys. They also have 6 grandchildren (so far),  5 boys and 1 girl. They have loved and served God together for most of their married life and their children grew up in the church surrounded by stories about God and His greatness.

Anna has written the 'Catch the Fire' stories in the hope that others will lift their Bibles and read the stories for themselves. She has taken the characters of The Bible and told the story from their perspective. Inspired by a play she saw earlier this year by David Compton called ‘A Farther Shore, A story by Peter the Fisherman’, Anna began to think of the characters in The Bible in a different way. Each one is there for a reason. As she began to imagine their thoughts and their reactions, the people came to life.

Everyone that we read about in the Bible was perfectly ordinary; going about their daily business when they encountered God. Imagine what that would have looked like when they told others what happened.

Did they sound a little crazy? Maybe!

Did their experience make sense to anyone else? Maybe not!

Who knows what they thought, felt, sensed or even tasted. We are not told.

For Anna it is fun to imagine and share these stories with others.
